The next two nights were to be spent in Lake Tahoe.
We decided to go there via Carson City and so headed off around 10 after another lovely breakfast in Bishop.
The route up to Mono was the same as we has driven the day before. There were more view points beyond Mono looking back on the lake where we stopped to take photos. The route was beautiful with great views of the Sierra Nevada on the way.
We stopped at 11.45 for Maurice to make an important phone call in a wee place called Bridgeport which was very quaint. It was another gorgeous day and we just relaxed and sat in the sun while the call was made.
Moving on to Carson City, we found the town centre and it was a lovely wee place. We happened upon a wee Thai restaurant for lunch which was really excellent and then wandered around Carson City for a bit. There was a 'pioneer trail' walk that was marked with a blue line on the pavement so we just followed that. We soon found some ridiculously decorated houses - for Halloween, each more outrageous than the other. The Governor's House was the most over the top and we took lots of pictures and video clips of that.
A passing stranger engaged us in conversation and we ended up with a free pass to the museum in Carson City which was actually rather good, although we only had around half an hour to enjoy it.
We then headed to Harley Davidson Carson City before leaving for Tahoe.
I had read that the hotel in Lake Tahoe did not have 'kerb appeal' and that was correct! Road works in the car park immediately adjacent didn't help matters but once we got into our room - another good choice! The room was large - ok there was no fridge - but it had a wee balcony and the most fantastic view of the Lake. The beer was stashed on the balcony instead of the fridge and that did very nicely as the evening and night time outside temperature plummeted.
Like Bishop, our end of Tahoe (the Californian end) did not seem too lively at this time of year. We found our way to a sports bar called Mo's appropriately enough, but it was rather rough and ready and seemed to be the gathering place for the local neds. So we walked on to the Brewery which I preferred and certainly was a much more pleasant environment, but the beer was less to Maurice's liking. Food had finished here too so we just got something from the local 24/7 shop and heated it in the microwave back at the hotel. We will have to find somewhere that stays open longer here!
