I got up a bit later than the day before and ventured out to the Navy Yard metro station. En route I came across the 7/11 so I stopped for a coffee and a yum yum.
Once at the station I realised I was not supposed to eat or drink in the station - d'oh!Anyway, I took the metro to the Navy tribute station which led me to the Newseum where I completed my tour from the day before. It was such a lovely day that I didn't stay too long there as I wanted to get out in the sun. I navigated my way to Arlington Cemetery and wandered up to the Kennedy memorials. Unfortunately the eternal flame was out of service! Not only were all the museums closed, but the flame was only a temporary one. Bizarre.
I walked over to the tomb of the unknown soldier and witnessed the changing of the guard there. A lot of pomp and circumstance but moving nevertheless. There were a large group of Korean war veterans there too.
After that I decided to visit the Lincoln Memorial and though initially thought I would get the Metro, I realised that it was not too far to walk over the Memorial Bridge.
It was quite strange to see it 'closed' but I still managed to get pics. I continued my walk to Foggy Bottom Metro station to take me to Hard Rock Cafe for my lunch/ tea. I had a couple of beers and a very substantial burger there and then went back to the hotel. I was a bit disoriented at first as the train exit was a bit different from the one I took earlier in the day. I found myself at the McDonald's across the road and got myself a coffee and cookies.
I must have walked nearly 8 miles today and over 9 nearer 10 yesterday - and that doesn't include the walk around the museum on both days. No wonder my feet had blisters!
Back in the hotel I packed and got myself ready for the next day's journey to California.
