I left the hotel around 9.30 to explore the city.
It turned out to be a beautiful day. The sun shone and it was really very warm. I walked towards the Capitol Building and came upon the Botanic Gardens which were of course closed. But the small section of garden which led there was lovely.
I walked to the Mall and took lots of pics of the Capitol Building. I then made my way to the Newseum and took in a few exhibits. It was quite fascinating.
I decided I would see the rest the next day. Then set off on the marathon walk, stopping here and there to take pics. I stopped for lunch of a chicken sandwich and glass of wine at the grill, outside the Washington Hotel which was very nice. The sun was very warm by this time.
I kept walking and eventually found my way along the river then on to Georgetown. I just walked around int the sun as it was such a lovely day.
At the entrance to the University I saw a famous basketball player - although I had no idea who he was It was clear he was famous by the number of people getting their photo taken with him.
I wandered on and eventually came across a pleasant if expensive 'tavern' where I partook of a glass of wine.
I then set off in search of the metro which I eventually found off Pennsylvania Avenue. I had found a wee store where I bought some wine and nibbles for t.
Eventually got back to the hotel after dark and settled down to an evening of tv and wine!
