Day seven - California here I come

A very early start to a very long day!

I set the alarm for 6.15 but in the event was awake just before 6. After a leisurely start, realised I just had 15 minutes to get myself to reception, so I hastily got myself ready.

Pick up was around 7 am and the super shuttle got me to the airport around 7.45. Traffic did not seem too bad and the airport was painless to negotiate. Once airside, I got a croissant and a coffee to while away the time.

Boarding was at 9.30 and I was in the last group to board, by which time there was absolutely no space into overhead bins. Not that I really needed them.

The journey was long and unfortunately as my seat row was in front of the emergency exit, I could not recline the seat. There was a massive woman in front of me who had hers reclined all the way, however!

San Francisco airport was easy to navigate and I found my way to the airtrain and to the Bart quite happily although I had a short panic after I got on the train that it was the right one. It was a longish journey to Concord and once there I could not see any taxis so I took the bus as the directions had indicated. I was quite pleased that I managed to negotiate my way in the heat and along roads that really were not built with pedestrians in mind.

Once at the hotel I quickly changed and then ventured out for food. The hotel looks quite pleasant and has a nice pool area too which I will make use of tomorrow!

Amazingly, we were very near a guitar centre which of course we had to visit. We spent a very pleasant hour there talking to a couple who invited us to their place! A bit odd. They lived 3 hours away and often visited this centre. The woman commented that Maurice was the best guitarist she had ever heard play which he was chuffed about!
We went to the Elephant bar for drinks, where quite a few other Chevron people wer also partaking. We ate there later on - Maurice having steak and prawns and I can't remember what I had - but it was lovely.
