Day twelve - Death Valley

Off in the car!

After stocking up at Walgreens with cold remedies - a baffling choice - we set off.
This started a bit scarily getting out of Vegas and missing a few key turns. It was not that busy relatively speaking, but busy enough! It was a lovely comfortable drive, the VW Taigin. As a passenger it was wonderfully smooth and for the driver really easy to drive too. After a few miles of busier highways we were on fantastic smooth open roads. The route to Death Valley was very straight forward and we navigated our way to Dante's View quite easily.

And what a view. We got out and wandered around in this area for a while, walking to the point and taking lots of photos and video clips. I was more amazed by this view than the Grand Canyon. Probably as I knew what to expect more of the Canyon but this was amazing.

We then move on to Zabriskie Point and again - amazing. More pictures videos and unfortunately a coughing fit.

Heading off, we navigated to Furnace Creek where we had a bit of lunch at a cafe in the Ranch area. This was actually very nice, we left there around 3pm to make the rest of the trip to Bishop where we were staying that night.

On the way we stopped a few more times at view points, in particular we stopped at the Dunes and this area was very dry and hot as you might expect. Pure desert.

We then drove on to Bishop. The views continued to be spectacular the entire journey and the sunset was beautiful.

We found the hotel on the main street very easily and settled into a lovely big room with 2 double beds.

Maurice went up the street to check out the local hostelries and I had a bath. There was somewhere right next door called the Whiskey Creek so we went in there and had a couple of drinks. The staff were not particularly friendly or efficient however. So we didn't bother to eat there. Everything seemed to shut down not long after 9 so we stuck it out till around 9.30 or so and then found the local McDonalds for a snack in the room before turning in pretty early.
